Lido Key Beaches

On the Southwest Coast of Florida
Just steps away from world class shopping at “St Armands Circle”

North Lido Beach and South Lido Beach offer natural beauty and seclusion while condos, hotels, restaurants, upscale shopping, and Lido’s public beach are central to Lido Key. This little island renders something for everyone.

John Ringling had purchased this island with plans for a major tourist attraction. Although the reality did not arrive within his lifetime, Lido and St. Armands Circle maintain world-class status featuring elegant shops, and award winning restaurants. The island is linked with bridges to the mainland of Sarasota as well as Bird Key and the island of Longboat Key.

An average year round 75-degree temperature makes this island paradise very conducive for just about anything.Tennis and Golf enthusiasts will find first-class facilities near-by. Bikers and rollerbladers can travel along the shoreline or wend their way through park-like settings and tropical side streets. Charter a Boat with or without a captain and explore the area’s many bays and backwaters, or take to the ocean for Deep Sea Fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Even enjoy a Sailing or Sightseeing excursion while visiting

North Lido Beach is a pristine half-mile stretch of sand accented by towering Australian pines. Perfect for walking, this beach is the least populated and spans an area behind a residential community.

Perhaps you prefer people watching, making new friends and enjoying the beach scene. Mid-key, Lido’s public beach supports a swimming pool, playground, concession stand and shops. Lifeguards are on duty all year-round.

South Lido Park is at the southern end of Lido Key. You’ll find 100 acres of Australian pines and shoreline along Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Picnic tables, grills, a volleyball court and playground are perfect for a family outing. Nature lovers will appreciate the wooden walkways and trails offering glimpses of spoonbills, osprey stilts and more. Those with kayaks and canoes will have the ability to travel the waterways through forests of mangroves where shore birds raise their young.

Evening entertainment is only a short stroll away at St. Armand’s Circle. A circular park dedicated to the memory of John Ringling, is flanked by sophisticated restaurants, nightclubs, exclusive shops and exotic boutiques.

Legendary fine dining can be found both on and off the Key. Whether your taste is for lobster bisque with a dash of sherry, roast rack of lamb accented with tarragon, stone crab claws with tangy mustard sauce or simply a down-home juicy cheeseburger, the range of award winning fare caters to a multitude of appetite whims.

Nearby Sarasota offers a vast array of arts and cultural attractions.

The Asolo Theatre is home to one of the area’s leading regional theatrical companies. Performances are scheduled from November through June on a turn-of-the-century stage. Sharing the stage with the Asolo is the acclaimed Sarasota Ballet of Florida offering a repertoire of classical and modern dance performed throughout the year. In the fall, the nearby The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art offers an International Arts Festival. This is a six-day cultural celebration of modern music, dance, theater, and visuals arts presented with New York’s Baryshnikov Arts Center, The Van Wezel Performing Arts Center has also been entertaining audiences with music, dance, theatre and comedy programs for over 40 years.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, located at the south end of Longboat Key is a world-renowned marine research center. The aquarium offers a fascinating array of sea life with a 30-foot Touch Tank and 135,000-gallon Shark tank bringing visitors face to face with a variety of shark species, fish and other marine life.

Don’t forget a visit to Towles Court, a charming enclave of restored historic residences, housing the best of local artistry. Legendary Fine Dining can be found both on and off the Key. Whether your taste is for lobster bisque with a dash of sherry, roast rack of lamb accented with tarragon, stone crab claws with tangy mustard sauce or simply a down-home juicy grilled cheeseburger, the range of award winning fare, caters to a multitude of appetite whims.

This Cultural Haven with stunning beaches, acres of recreation, superb shops, galleries and restaurants…cause many to retire here or at least seek a second home. Be sure to check the Real Estate and Retirement Living sections.
